Intersted in becoming a firefighter?
Take a look below to see what our current members think of the fire service.
"What's in it for me?"
"Firefighting is the single greatest job that you will ever have.
It's a privilege to be able to do the things that we do. When you pull that person out of the car or out of the water, [and] they're able to look at you and you know that they're okay is the greatest feeling in the world.

"There's something here for everyone. Whether it's being an interior firefighter, an exterior firefighter, or fire police. There's a spot here for everyone. Every hand helps. It's a great feeling to be able to go out there and help. The brotherhood here is second to none."
Pat Mellon, Jr.Captain
The family atmosphere and the amount of fun we really do have around here. Always having a blast, always having a laugh, always cracking jokes with each other. On a more serious note, you learn discipline, you learn leadership.

"I HEAR PEOPLE SAY, "THE FIRE SERVICE IS A FAMILY." IS THIS TRUE?"
I think everybody that I work with at the fire department, I consider like my second family. You develop a close bond when you're getting up in the middle of the night to go to calls. . . It's tiring, it's a lot of work, it's a lot of responsibility, but at the same time, you're invested in what you're doing for your community and for the people beside you.

It's a brotherhood, we're like one big family. We all work together, we joke around together, we all hang out together. It's a good group to be around. I have a lot of very strong relationships here.

The experiences that you share with the poeple that you're in with; challenging, high stress situations, it really brought fourth the meaning of brotherhood to me. It creates a bond that is almost impossible to replicate. At Bay Ridge, we're a very close-knit group of people. "
